Hemraj, a renowned Indian artist born in Delhi in 1968, has made significant contributions to the world of art. He graduated from The College of Art, New Delhi in 1991 and went on to complete his Masters' Degree in painting from the same institution in 1993. Hemraj has held numerous solo shows and participated in group exhibitions across India. His artwork has also been displayed in prestigious places such as the Bill Lowe Gallery in America and the Galleria Muller and Plate in Germany and Dhoomimal Gallery India In recognition of his talent, he was honored with the National Award from Lalit Kala Academy, one of the most prestigious awards in India. A notable achievement in Hemraj's career was when his artwork was showcased in a solo booth at the India Art Fair in 2014. ....     “Thou … Thou … 2012” is an extension of my earlier approach to the concept dedicated to “Thou”, the most dear and loving address to God almighty. It is noteworthy that the term “Thou” is used for one's near and dear ones, wherein “You” would be utterly inappropriate, as it indicates distance between the devotee and Him.   The traditional philosophical concept is that there is an intrinsic relationship between “Thou” and “ Thine ”. The human doer “I” staying out of this ambit. It is He who is the  over all  doer and the entire universe is His creation. What is  Thine  is mine only in a limited sense and is an egotistic manifestation.    The wise man says “ Idan   na  mum” (this is not mine). It's only a temporary charge that lets people say – “This is mine – property, relatives (wife, son, daughter, brother, sister etc. etc.) Of course, these connections define “I” and boost our ego. Great and genuine artists have always had their own handwriting! Clearly identifiable, even if they undergo a vivid and intriguing development of their art and style, over the years. If we talk of of Picasso  - whether  you look at his early paintings of the blue or pink period or at his later works of the Fauve movement, he was always himself. We see a similar authenticity and marked typical style that makes Hemraj noteworthy throughout his whole creative period.  Hemraj shows a tremendous development through the last 25 years. His new works,show all characteristics already well known from his early years in spite of the evolution that has been subtly seeping in. Abstractionism as a creative mode of expression in visual arts hit the Indian shores perhaps sometimes in the late sixties of the last century.  Many Indian artists joined the trend that had already peaked in the Western world of art much before.  As a late arrival on the Indian scene, the trend continued through the seventies and eighties, though the pace slackened significantly thereafter as more and more artists branched off into anecdotal modes of expression.  This is as it is perhaps the case in the Western horizon where presently super-realism seems to have come to occupy the centre stage.  For that matter, much of the contemporary discourse on art is now taken up with the booming phenomenon of super-realism in the Western world.    Coming back to the Indian scene, while many artists have followed anecdotal trends very few seem to have continued with the trend of abstractionism.  Hem Raj who belongs to the latter group grew up watching all these epochal events in the art world. रवींद्र त्रिपाठी ,राष्ट्रीय सहारा ने मेरी पहचान अमूर्त कलाकार की है। पर मैं पारिभाषिक अर्थ में अमूर्त कलाकार हूं, इसमें मुझे संदेह है। इतना जानता हूं कि कलाकार हूं। बरसों से पेंटिंग कर रहा हूं। आगे भी करूंगा। पर मैं किसी परिभाषा के तहत आता हूं, ये नहीं जानता।‘हेमराज ने ये तब कहा जब मैं उनकी कलाकृतियां देख रहा था और उनसे बातें कर रहा था। पिछले कईबरसों से देश के शीर्षस्थ अमूर्त कलाकारों में उनकी गणना की जाती है। पर हेमराज का कहना है- `जिस दौर में और जिस भावना से आकृतिमूलक कला पश्चिम में शुरू हुई उसका मुझसे नाता नहीं है। मैं जब पेंटिग करता हूं तो सूफी संगीत सुनता हूं। खासकर नुसरत फतेह अली खान या साबरी बंधुओं की कव्वाली। कई बार कव्वालियों के बोल या उनके लफ्ज मुझे समझ में नहीं आते। फिर भी मैं धुन को सुनता हूं और लय से प्रभावित होता है। और उस दौरान जो अनुभूति होती है वही मेरी कला में उतरती है। पश्चिम के अमूर्त कलाकार, चाहे वो वसीली कादिंस्की हो या कोई और, सूफी संगीत तो नहीं सुनते थे। न ही उनकी कला-रचना की प्रक्रिया के दौरान सूफी संगीत का कोई योगदान था। फिर मैं उनके अर्थ में अमूर्त कलाकार कैस

Published One year ago         on   October 26, 2022 Entrepreneur Stories At Dhoomimal Gallery on 15th October2022, a book on Indian contemporary renowned artist named Hem Raj entitled A-drishya (Art Dialogue Series-1) was released by eminent artists Anjolie Ela Menon and Jagdish Dey in the august presence of lot of invitees and art lovers. This book is written by Abhishek Kashyap. Though he is not an artist or a real art lover, he wasn’t able to capture the pulse of the artist properly. But it is a good effort because we can expect during the time span of future years Abhishek will reach his goal. Apart from this book review I can say about the artist because I knew Hemraj over two decades and have interacted with him a lot of times. His works move you and will make you think for a long time. Creative freedom being explored to the hilt? To the point that in his works Hemraj seems to assert the child inside unabashedly! Can that be seen as art?  Picasso somewhere stated, “It took me three years to paint like Raffle but a life time to paint like a child.” It seems that through his peek-a-boo strokes Hemraj is playing between the dark patchy one’s hiding partially behind the transparent roller strokes that leave it partially mystified and the rest beckoning towards itself to be unearthed. Tell about your new collection Since last 5 years I am working on one series whose name I have kept as internal Reminiscence 2.0. This is also exhibited earlier and currently I am working on the extension of the same series. This series is not names after my thought rather the name of the process and the way I work internal Reminiscence 2.0. I generally paint that is inside us and those things which do not change and do not paint those which keeps on changin like they are something today and something tomorrow. I prefer constant things. I have always been an introvert and tried to see deep in rather than beauty that is outside and that is what I try to paint. The nature inside us is related to the universe outside us and I try to bring that on my paintings. My paintings are new to me and never old as it is not based on a particular thought or based on something. Ideas change from time to time so I do not paint it. So I paint those which are not new or old rather the very constant.  And

Tell about your new collection पिछले पाँच सालों से मैं एक सीरीज़ पर काम कर रहा हूँ ,जिसका नाम मैंने रखा है इंटरनल रैमिनिसैसं २.० ।इस सीरीज़ को मैं पहले भी प्रदर्शित कर चुका हूँ लेकिन अब में हैं इसी सीरीज़ के एक्सटेंशन पर काम कर रहा हूँ । मेरी इस सीरीज़ का नाम मेरे विचारों पर आधारित नहीं है बल्कि ये मेरे प्रोसेस का नाम है मेरे पेंटिंग करने के तरीक़े का नाम है इंटरनल रैमिनिसैसं २.० । मैं  उसको पेंट नहीं करता जो निरंतर बदलता रहता है जिसमें निरंतर परिवर्तन होते रहते हैं जैसे हमारे विचार आज कुछ कल कुछ ,ये विचार  एक से नहीं नहीं रहते हैं हमेशा बदलते रहते हैं इसलिए मैं इन्हें पेंट नहीं करता मैं उसे पेंट करता हूँ जो हमारे अंदर सास्वत है ,जो हमेशा है और हमेशा रहेगा मैं उसको अपनी पेंटिंग्स में बनाता हूँ जो जो न कभी बदलता । मैं हमेशा introvert रहा हूँ बहार नहीं अंदर देखता हूँ ,जो मेरे अंदर है जो मेरे दिमाग़ के पार है मैं उसे पेंट करने की कोशिश करता हूँ। हमारे अंदर जो नेचर है जो प्रकृति हैं जो बहार से पूरे ब्रह्मांड से जुड़ी हुई है मैं उसे अपने चित्रों में लाने की कोशिश करता हूँ और मेरे चित्र मुझे

Here's a moment in time: that impells you to behold, with the mind nudged to become still. One would naturally be propelled to suspend the ever verbose entity to a peaceful halt, for once not trying to find meaning. Wouldn't that be one of the directions art can be piloting? To be gaining entry into the apparently indecipherable arena beyond the mind, which is where I see Hemraj’s leading us. For his impressionist impasto flat bold strokes, one on top of another; lines demanding their say, playing with thick dots seemingly haphazard, I would want to inquire if there is a method to the madness. Do the opaque emissions on top of some translucent and some opaque under-layers whisper of the glimpses of the mystery of the coveted, now and then partially visible and then again hidden with its ever elusive quality?
